A Cancer Centre Miracle Story

Being told you have cancer has to be one of the scariest times in one’s life.

Uncertainty abounds.  For someone who has spent a major part of my life “in control”, I was now committing my life and my life saving treatment to other people’s control.  I did it without hesitation.

I committed to use orthodox medicine (chemotherapy) in conjunction with as many adjunctive therapies as I could find, realising that my mind and my body had a huge effect on how well the chemo would work.

My best friend John Hinwood gave me bundle of Expect a Miracle cards and we put them all over the house. This was perhaps the very first adjunctive therapy I implemented.

As a management consultant/business coach I have spent the last 20 plus years assisting business owners to see their business from their customer’s perspective and adjusting their approach accordingly … with great success!

So when my experiences at the “Cancer Care Centre” didn’t live up to my expectations of “Care” I became frustrated and angry.

They had forgotten to invite me to an information session so I was totally lacking in information about what going to happen and what I might expect.  Then on the next occasion I sat waiting for over 70 minutes for an appointment without a simple explanation or an apology.  This and a number of other experiences was affecting my whole outlook.

Then one of my clients, who had been through Chemo some 10 years prior, offered me some advice.  It was simple and changed my mindset … Stay Positive; Keep Busy; and get out in the open air as often as possible … even when I didn’t feel like it.

With my changed mindset I approached my next visit to the Cancer Care Centre with a positive attitude and a pocket full of Expect a Miracle cards.  As I sat and waited for only 20 minutes this time, I handed a card to the nervous woman who was there on her first visit and her face beamed.

Everyone I encountered on that and every subsequent visit has experienced my positive attitude and an Expect a Miracle card.  It has been a real pleasure for the staff, who are all Miracle Workers in their own way, to be given the opportunity to expect their own miracle.

I met with my oncologist today and I think she was surprised at the lack of side effects and my positivity.

I truly believe in the power of the mind and I expect a miracle.
