The Telephone

I was working for a computer tech support company, and we were having a terrible morning. The phone was ringing off the hook, four incoming lines, and phone call after phone call was abusive and difficult.

By 10:00am, two hours into my day, I was all but burnt out and quite shaken. I managed to get outside, into the sunlight, for morning tea, and took some good deep breaths.

I thought about how I’d prefer my day to go – nice calls, easy supportive, where I could really help those people who were calling.

On returning from my break, I started by white lighting my pone, and then the line leading to my phone. I ran the light to the company switchboard, and to all the other phones in the building. From there, the light ran down the main incoming line, all the way to the local telephone exchange. The light surrounded that building too, and went out to all the lines heading into the exchange. I took some more deep breaths, braced myself, and went back inside.

It was silent. No phones rang in the office for the next two hours! It really was a miracle!
