My First Pregnancy

I was pregnant for the first time. Having read and researched everything to do with pregnancy and birthing, I was armed with all the facts I could lay my hands on. I needed to know everything.

Into my first trimester and bleeding occurs at around eleven weeks. I was taken to hospital and examined by a doctor who was on duty at the time. My obstetrician was away that day.

The next step was a very brief examination and then the doctor proceeded to tell me that the usual procedure for cases such as this is a curettage. I was told that there was no future for the foetus. I questioned his findings as there was an aspect of his explanation which I felt was not congruent.

The doctor (whom I later found out was an Intern) became agitated with me when I decided not to go ahead with his prescribed procedure. I left the hospital, went home, and continued researching more on the situation, and contacted a local midwife for some advice. My decision was to allow nature to take control and run its course.

At he same time, while speaking to the midwife, my TV was on in the background with the cound turned down. As I hung up the phone, I prayed for help and support, then I happened to turn to the TV. I saw the words on the screen saying, “Everything will be alright.”

My first pregnancy was a natural birth, and my miracle girl is now 18 years old.
