The Man is a BUM!

In early October 2010 I was in Southport, Connecticut doing Expect A Miracle book signings.

On the Tuesday I took an R & R day and took the 85 minute commuter train ride into New York City with my host Dr Robert Kipp.

After a special day sight-seeing and visiting ‘The Body’ exhibition we boarded the subway on route to Grand Central Station where we changed to our commuter train for our journey home.

As we boarded the subway train, two African Americans followed us. These ‘dudes’ had stand-up bongo drums in one hand and a folding seat in the other.

These buskers asked the passengers in the stand up door area to please part and push down the aisles either side so they could start their entertainment program.

As soon as they sat down on their fold out chairs and started to play, I gave the lead man of the pair an Expect A Miracle card.

On receiving the card, he and his partner immediately stopped playing their bongos.

The leader stood up and call all those in the entire carriage (which was packed ‘like sardines’) to attention. He was a commanding fellow in presence and also exhibited a wonderful melodic voice with strong diction.

He said … “Listen up, listen up, this man here is a BUM!”

The commuters in most part could not have cared less. Just another BUM in New York City … so what’s new?

Our patron then spelt out what the acronym BUM stood for “Here we have ladies and gentlemen a man who is a member of that special group … ‘Brothers Understanding Miracles’. Ladies and gentlemen we all need to expect miracles everyday in our lives”.

He and his partner then went back to playing their bongos for a few minutes before stopping again. The leader then stood up again and asked, “Where do you get these cards from? Please tell everybody here brother”.

I then had a captive audience for a few minutes before we arrived at the next subway stop. I gave them the URL for the website www.expectamiracle.com and told them to click on the Make Your Own EAM Cards tab at the top of the page, and start printing their own Expect A Miracle Cards to hand out to all those they came in contact with. Also please post your miracle stories on the site to share with the Expect A Miracle community around the world.

As I completed my final words the train pulled into Grand Central Station Subway stop and Rob and I alighted and headed upstairs to catch out commuter train home.

Wow … what a few miracle moments I was able to share with New Yorkers that day, thanks to my being a BUM!
