Chance Meeting

My husband and I were in Rome on vacation. We had stopped to eat lunch at a restaurant. We got up to leave and I realized I had forgotten my umbrella at our table.

My husband said he would go back and get it and for me to wait there, I was still in the restaurant closer to the front waiting, when this group of tourists came it.

I had to step back a little as they filed in front of me. One lady passed me and I tapped her on the shoulder, as it took a moment for the recognition to set in. It was my husband’s Mother. In a city of several million people and no telling how many visitors I literally met my Mother-in-Law there.

Neither of us knew the other was there. She was on a tour with her church from New Jersey. My husband and I were living in Germany and had not seen her in nearly two years.

We were able to join her and some of her friends for dinner that evening. What a lovely chance meeting.
