Our House Burnt Down

In early 2005 we had been living for 5 years in a beautiful home on 10 acres on a mountain top in sub tropical Queensland in the hinterland on Australia’s Gold Coast.

One evening I had a very vivid dream in my sleep which was a most unusual experience for me.

My dream was that we could move back to the ocean to live in a large beach front home with sand dunes in front and all on a pristine, almost deserted surfing beach, with a gym and bike trail right there.

The home needed to be big and have facilities for 20 people so we could run Retreats and have family and extended family sleep over at holiday times.

My dream showed me the magnificent area we would move to, however not the specific property.

This new area was about 45 minutes south of where we were living on top of Mt Wongawallen. The new home in my dream was across the border in rural New South Wales in an area that is on a narrow strip of land between the beach and a main country road that runs down the coast parallel to the beach with a huge nature reserve on the opposite side of the main road.

We had often travelled this road 15 to 20 years earlier with our kids when we had driven south for 650km to visit friends. At that time no one lived there and it was just rough bush along the beachfront. Our thoughts back in those days were, “who would ever live in this out of the way little place, there’s nothing here”.

On waking the next morning after my dream, I told my wife Judy all about it as it was so still vivid in my mind.

Judy responded to my sharing the next morning by saying immediately … YES, LET’S  MOVE!

We created a list of all the features we wanted in our new home, both from my dream and also lots of other things we decided that our dream home would have. We drew out a house plan.

We then spent the next several months visiting the tiny village of Casuarina Beach from time to time looking at available properties, keeping in mind our list and drawings.

Eventually, our dream home showed up in October 2005 and we moved in on 1 February 2006.

Three months later at 11.15pm we received a phone call from our past next door neighbour from our previous home on Mt Wongawallen. He was quite upset as he told me our past mountain top home was in the throes of burning down rapidly. He wanted the name of the owner who lived interstate.

The house burnt down in 15 minutes due to an electrical fault. Judy and I sat up in bed that night saying thank you, thank you, thank you to for the miracle, the vivid dream to move to the beach and leave our mountain retreat as soon as we could.

The second miracle that occurred that night was that the person who lived in the house was away at the time.
