Miracle On A Cold Night

I am a farmer in Murwillumbah but came originally from Victoria. Years ago my wife and I were driving on a gravel road at night in Gippsland, about an hour from any town. The oil indicator light came on and I discovered the ute was leaking oil quite badly from the pressure switch. We obviously weren’t going any further that night.

Luckily, within half an hour another vehicle came along. The driver stopped and asked if he could help. “Only if you happen to have a Holden oil pressure switch on you,” I joked. The stranger was in a Nissan ute.

To our utter amazement he replied: “As a matter of fact I do. My wife drives a Holden and her oil pressure switch was leaking a drop now and then, so I just changed it for her. The old one’s in the glove box, you’re welcome to it.”

Needless to say we gratefully accepted the part from the stranger who then drove off into the night. I was able to change the switch by torchlight and we were soon on our way again.

But the chances of the very first person who came past, at night, having this particular spare part, for a different make of vehicle than his own, must be millions to one. To this day we are still in awe of what was so far beyond a coincidence that we know we experienced a miracle.
